Case Study – News
News is a supplement of information institutions give to the world. The purpose of this is to make the public aware of what’s happening around the world. This institution involves a lot of mediation, which is basically when news in changed, manipulated or exaggerated for the sake of popularity. News is broadcasted On the TV, Radio, Internet and Newspaper.
TV service: The TV industry has expanded enormously over the past years. It’s almost seen as a shock if people don’t have TV’s in their homes- as TV is the main source of entertainment, education and information. In addition companies such as BBC are aware that TV is present in every home. So they use this opportunity to send news to their viewers.
Radio Service: most people listen to the radio for entertainment such as music. Radios are present in homes, cars and they also provide an online service. This suggests that most people are tuned in during the morning, on the way to work and in the evening. In addition institutions supply news during those times as they are aware of the public listening.
Internet Service: internet is popular amongst the teenagers/ young adults- their more comfortable with using technology whereas the elderly people aren’t bothered and prefer watching TV. Stereotypically teenagers aren’t interested in the news therefore institutions present news online on WebPages to catch their eye via exaggeration which automatically engages the reader.
Newspaper Service: notice the word Newspaper, this suggests that newspapers are originally designed to pass on information and referring back to the year’s internet, radio or TV’s weren’t introduced which suggests Newspaper (Print) was the main source of information. However even though technology has improved and people have access to other sources, people traditionally like reading newspapers. This could be the reason for people to supply news on train stations as they know that the public won’t have anything better to do while they travel.
